Chicago White Sox Players Eye All-Star Selection Amid Team Success

Chicago White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas has not focused much on becoming an All-Star. Speaking at Rate Field, Vargas expressed his desire to achieve this goal but emphasized the team’s larger ambitions. “I’m not a selfish guy. I want to focus and end this half really strong,” he said. The team has been playing well, with Vargas contributing significantly. The All-Star Game is set for July 14 in Philadelphia, with rosters announced Saturday night.

The White Sox last had multiple All-Stars in 2022. This year, Vargas is among those considered, aiming to be the first Sox third baseman selected since Joe Crede in 2008. Manager Will Venable praised Vargas’s consistency and offseason work. “He plays every day and he’s getting on base every day,” Venable said. Vargas ranks first among third basemen in runs and is among the leaders in home runs and RBIs.

Vargas credits his preparation and learning from past seasons. “I’m just trying to be better every single day and have fun,” he said. His positive influence and energy are also noted, contributing to a vibrant clubhouse atmosphere.

In the pitching department, Davis Martin stands out. Although his performance against the Cleveland Guardians was not his best, he holds a 9-3 record with a 3.08 ERA. Martin is tied for first in the AL for wins and ranks seventh in ERA. Venable considers him “very deserving” of the All-Star recognition.

Colson Montgomery is another strong contender. The shortstop leads his position in home runs and ranks highly in RBIs and slugging percentage. Meanwhile, Munetaka Murakami excelled until a right hamstring strain sidelined him in May. Despite his All-Star potential, Venable prioritizes Murakami’s recovery over immediate game participation.

Venable remains optimistic about the Sox members who may receive All-Star honors. “We’ll be proud of whoever does make the team,” he remarked. The selections are both a source of excitement and potential disappointment as the team awaits the results.
