Chad Tracy Appointed Permanent Red Sox Manager

Chad Tracy will remain with the Boston Red Sox as their manager. The team announced on Tuesday that they have removed the interim label from Tracy, making him the 49th manager in franchise history. Tracy took over managerial duties for the Red Sox on April 25, when the team had a 10-17 record under the previously fired Alex Cora. Tracy’s leadership has since transformed the team’s performance significantly. Under his guidance, the Red Sox have achieved a 74-55 record.

Tracy has been signed to a three-year contract extending through 2029, with an option for the club to extend it through 2030. Additionally, the Red Sox have exercised team options for chief baseball officer Craig Breslow for the years 2029 and 2030, aligning both of their tenures.

“Craig and Chad are two exceptionally talented leaders who have earned these opportunities in very different ways,” said Red Sox President & CEO Sam Kennedy. “Over the past three years, Craig has brought clarity, discipline, and conviction to building our baseball operation. Chad was called to step into a challenging situation with little notice, and he immediately commanded trust at the major league level through his years of work in our organization.”

The Red Sox have achieved notable success, ranking second in the American League and fifth across all baseball teams since Tracy assumed managerial duties. Tracy led the team through their most successful 30-game period in franchise history with a record of 27-3 from July 3 to August 7.

The team’s remarkable play has secured them a slot in the postseason. They are expected to face the New York Yankees in a Wild Card Series. The Yankees previously eliminated the Red Sox in last season’s wild card round, setting the stage for potential payback.

Tracy’s history in baseball is extensive. He spent eight years as a player in the minor leagues with the Texas Rangers, Colorado Rockies, and Kansas City Royals from 2006 to 2013. He began his coaching journey in 2015 with the Los Angeles Angels, where he served seven seasons, including three as a manager of minor league teams. In 2018, Tracy was appointed the Angels’ minor league coordinator and held the post until 2021. He joined the Red Sox in 2022 as the manager of Triple-A Worcester, a role he maintained until his major league promotion.
