Cam Skattebo Drives Giants to Victory, Criticizes NFL

2 hours ago 0

In a remarkable performance following a game with no carries, Cam Skattebo revitalized the New York Giants’ running game and voiced his anger at the NFL.

Skattebo rushed 17 times, accumulating 124 yards and scoring once, helping New York narrowly defeat the Houston Texans 27-21 in overtime on October 25. ESPN highlighted this as his first 100-yard rushing game in his professional career.

However, Skattebo’s standout performance wasn’t without controversy. During a lengthy run, he collided with Texans safety M.J. Stewart, resulting in an unnecessary roughness penalty. Officials determined he used the crown of his helmet in the contact.

Giants coach John Harbaugh had to restrain Skattebo on the sidelines, later voicing his own disagreement over the penalty with the officials. What Harbaugh specifically told the officials remains unknown, but Skattebo expressed his discontent openly.

“I will say, man, the NFL loves to post me when I do stuff like that, but then also wants to take stuff from me. So, I mean, I’m going to run the ball like I want to run the ball, and if I’m going to continue to get flagged or fined for it, man, I guess I’m going to play for free,” Skattebo stated.

OutKick reported that replays of the play closely mirrored many of Skattebo’s previous runs, which may lead to a fine according to him.

Skattebo’s significant output was a response to weeks of challenges. He previously fumbled during an overtime game against the Washington Commanders, marking his fifth turnover in 13 games, and that game resulted in a tie. Subsequently, he saw limited action with six snaps and no carries against the New Orleans Saints as New York fell short.

Against Houston, Skattebo executed a career-long 42-yard run in overtime, paving the way for Devin Singletary’s 30-yard game-winning touchdown.

Reflecting on the victory, Skattebo noted that the game was a statement from the backfield, following New York’s decision to release Najee Harris.

“It was awesome to be able to show Coach and show the team that we have running backs in the backfield that can do it,” Skattebo commented.

However, a hamstring issue emerged during his 42-yard run, forcing him to leave the field. The Giants, now with a 4-2-1 record, will use the upcoming bye week to recover before facing the Philadelphia Eagles, kicking off two NFC East games in five days.
