Despite the DMV’s assurance about the lack of AI involvement in this specific case, remote proctoring technologies have long faced scrutiny for potential false positives. Such systems may incorrectly flag ordinary behaviors as irregular under present technological capabilities.

Cybersecurity experts raised alarms over inadequate security protocols, questioning the oversight at involved institutions. Bill Fitzgerald, a Consumer Reports privacy researcher, condemned the evident lapses as “concerning.”

Affected drivers must book an appointment to retake their written tests within 30 days. The DMV will not accept walk-ins. Drivers are required to present their notice from the DMV when attending the appointment.
