A California actor and producer, Shane Ryan Gledhill, 46, is under serious legal scrutiny, facing 24 felony charges related to alleged child sexual abuse activities that span several decades. Gledhill, based in Lompoc, was apprehended on August 3 following an intensive investigation by Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s detectives lasting nearly five years.
Gledhill’s career involved collaborations with notable actors like Shelley Duvall, Tom Arnold, Richard Dreyfuss, and Ed Harris. Initially charged with 15 felony counts, this number has now increased to 24.
The investigation, which began in November 2021, was triggered when a 17-year-old survivor reported suspicious and inappropriate behavior involving Gledhill, alleging incidents from when she was 15.
This led to a wider investigation identifying nine survivors, all minors at the time of the alleged offenses. In February 2022, a search warrant executed at Gledhill’s Lompoc residence resulted in the seizure of thousands of digital files, later subjected to extensive forensic analysis.
The Sheriff’s Office concluded that Gledhill allegedly misused online casting calls and film projects to exploit aspiring young actors. This prompted the public release of his booking photo to raise awareness and potentially identify more survivors or witnesses.
Gledhill is accused of severe crimes, including child molestation, rape, forcible sexual assault, contacting a minor for sexual offenses, possessing child sexual abuse material, and providing harmful material to a minor. He was detained at his Lompoc home on an arrest warrant, and his bail is set at $2 million.
The investigation suggests Gledhill’s alleged misconduct may extend over 25 years, potentially affecting individuals across California’s Central Coast, Los Angeles, and the East Coast. Authorities stress the possibility of undiscovered survivors and are encouraging them to come forward.
Gledhill’s preliminary court hearing is scheduled for September 9 at the Santa Barbara County Superior Court’s Lompoc division.
