Bunny Levine Passes Away at 97: A Life of Dedication to Acting and Education

Bunny Levine, a former school librarian who successfully pursued her acting aspirations in Hollywood, has passed away at the age of 97. Levine died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Tarzana, California, on August 20, as confirmed by her manager Brandon Kjar.

“Bunny inspired affection and admiration in many people with her work in education and performance,” shared Levine’s family in a statement. Her remarkable career and warm personality left a lasting impression on many.

Born on December 22, 1928, in East Orange, New Jersey, Levine harbored dreams of acting and performing from a young age. Despite her passion, she initially chose to focus on education. She earned her master’s degrees from New York University and Columbia University, eventually working as a school librarian for 25 years.

After retirement, Levine actively pursued her dream in Hollywood, securing numerous roles in TV and film. Her credits include appearances on shows and movies such as “Gilmore Girls,” “La La Land,” and “Law & Order.” Her agent Mike Eisenstadt described her as “a great and fearless actress and such a nice lady.”

Levine remained vibrant in her craft, continuing to audition and act. Her recent works included roles in “The Invisible Raptor” in 2023, “Sacramento,” and “Thelma” in 2024. In 2026, she appeared in “The Upshaws” and “The Cure.”

Beyond acting, Levine and her husband Bernie, married for 53 years, founded the Actors Connection in 1991 in New York City. The organization praised Levine for her contribution to fostering new acting talents.

She is survived by her children, Marty, Francie, and Joe, along with her grandchildren, Robin and Jeffrey. Her life remains a testament to the power of pursuing one’s passions while enriching the lives of others through education and community.
