Boost Your Chance of Pregnancy with Lifestyle Changes

4 weeks ago 0

Starting the journey to grow your family can be an exciting time. Yet, achieving pregnancy isn’t always straightforward. The American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists notes that healthy, heterosexual couples aged 20 to early 30s have a 25% to 30% chance of conceiving each month, while engaging in regular, unprotected intercourse.

Multiple factors can influence these odds, according to reproductive endocrinologist Lucky Sekhon. She states that medical history, genetics, hormone levels, timing, and chance all play roles in conception. “Trying to get pregnant is like playing a slot machine,” Sekhon explains. Timing intercourse around ovulation is akin to pulling the lever, hoping that everything aligns for success.

Despite the uncertainty, there are actions both men and women can take to improve fertility. Lifestyle choices that support reproductive health are pivotal, such as getting regular exercise and avoiding substances like cannabis, nicotine, and alcohol.

Seven Ways to Improve Fertility

Consider incorporating the following evidence-supported changes to enhance your fertility:

  • Maintain a balanced diet that includes fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
  • Exercise regularly to maintain a healthy body weight.
  • Avoid smoking, alcohol, and recreational drugs that may impair fertility.
  • Manage stress through relaxation techniques.
  • Stay informed about ovulation timing for optimal conception chances.
  • Ensure adequate sleep to support overall health.
  • Consider consulting with a fertility specialist if faced with challenges.
