Bill Maher, a frequent critic of President Trump, is set to receive a comedy award at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The event is expected to be politically charged, taking place at an institution recently involved in controversy.

Mr. Maher, known for his sharp commentary, will accept the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. This occurs during a time when the arts center, led by President Trump, faces legal disputes. A federal judge ordered the removal of Mr. Trump’s name from the building’s facade, a decision the center is appealing.

On his HBO show, “Real Time With Bill Maher,” Mr. Maher criticizes both President Trump and the progressive elements within the Democratic party. Despite the contentious atmosphere, Mr. Maher accepted the honor at the Kennedy Center when many other artists decline to appear there.
