Maher pointed out viral videos featuring soccer tourists enjoying everyday American experiences, such as shopping at Costco and attending games in air-conditioned stadiums. He argued that these international visitors serve as a reminder of America’s often-overlooked strengths.

Thousands of soccer enthusiasts embraced American culture during the FIFA World Cup. Among the most enthusiastic was Norwegian striker Erling Haaland. It appears the American spirit influenced him during his visit. The Manchester City star returned home with a stuffed raccoon holding a booze bottle, a popular item. Haaland shared a video of himself hitting biodegradable golf balls into the water from a boat, while listening to country artist Ella Langley. “It might be time to discuss granting Erling Haaland honorary U.S. citizenship,” Maher proposed. He compared this to how colleges award honorary doctorates for commencement speeches.

Maher quipped that honorary citizenship could extend to those who exhibit a fondness for American culture, through activities like golfing to country music, enjoying pastrami sandwiches, or appreciating taxidermy.

Norway’s Erling Haaland was spotted carrying his famous taxidermied raccoon on an Oslo runway. Maher concluded by extending a gesture of respect to those who embrace Americana. While honorary citizens might not vote or hold office, they could wear Old Navy Fourth of July shirts without appearing out of place.
