Audio Issues at MLB All-Star Game Cause Frustration

Philadelphia hosted the MLB All-Star Game with a historic theme. The event featured patriotic costumes, and starting players signed a lineup sheet with a quill pen.

However, the occasion was marred by significant audio problems. These issues were prominent when players wore microphones in the dugout or on the field. Detroit Tigers All-Star Justin Verlander was particularly affected. Though he didn’t play, he was named an honorary Legend Pick by MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred. His interviews with the commentary team were difficult to hear.

When players were interviewed by Fox’s sideline reporter or the commentary team, the audio inconsistencies persisted. While the commentary team’s voices were clear, interviews with players often experienced sound dropouts.

Fans took to the platform X to express their disappointment with Fox’s audio mishaps during such an important sports event. Comments ranged from frustration to incredulity at the poor presentation.

Fox is failing miserably with its poor [expletive] audio with their interviews with the players. Absolutely train wreck, one fan commented.

Another wrote,Glad Fox could mic up Dylan Cease and Shane Langeliers at the ASG so we could NOT HEAR THEM! I’ve had better audio from print reporters who haven’t the slightest clue how to work a recorder. Jesus.

In the third inning, Fox’s commentators attempted interviews with Bobby Witt Jr. on the field and Kyle Schwarber at the plate. Schwarber adjusted his earpiece, which suggested he had trouble hearing the questions.

Fans’ frustration with Fox’s coverage came amid earlier concerns about Netflix streaming rather than ESPN for the MLB Home Run Derby.

Audio issues are not uncommon in live broadcasts. Technology, however, should allow on-the-fly fixes. Fox either failed to notice or couldn’t resolve the problem.

These lapses made the experience less enjoyable, particularly when players were asked significant questions about their seasons or immediate reactions to game moments.
