An armed suspect wearing tactical gear emerged from a Queens home following a fiery explosion on Saturday. New York City Police Department (NYPD) officers responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired and a man yelling threats. Keegan Thompson, aged 33, was shot and arrested after the explosion, stated NYPD Assistant Chief Christopher McIntosh. Inside the home, authorities later found two deceased family members.
Officers arrived around 12 p.m. at a residence on Ocean Crest Boulevard in Far Rockaway. A caller, identified as the suspect’s wife, reported that her husband was armed. Upon reaching the site, police encountered a woman outside who heard gunshots, saw a body inside, and then called 911. She informed the officers about her husband’s possession of a shotgun.

Family members and neighbors gathered near an FDNY ambulance as authorities investigated the events at the Queens home. Officers then established a perimeter and requested assistance from the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit (ESU) while trying to contact the suspect without success.
Around 12:15 p.m., ESU officers were ready to enter when a significant explosion occurred inside. Shortly afterward, the suspect appeared, armed with a shotgun and wearing a tactical vest filled with ammunition. Despite repeated orders to drop the weapon, he continued holding the shotgun. An officer then fired, striking him. Officers provided medical assistance, and the suspect was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.

Thompson has no known criminal record or mental health issues documented by the NYPD. The victims inside the house have not been identified, and their causes of death are under investigation. Flames engulfing the house prompted officers to evacuate neighboring homes to ensure residents’ safety. The cause of the explosion remain unknown, and an investigation continues.
The bravery of the officers who responded today cannot be overstated,” McIntosh said. “They responded to a 911 call not knowing what was waiting for them, and they ran toward the danger with no hesitation.
The incident, recorded on officers’ body cameras, is under investigation by the NYPD’s Force Investigation Division.
