Carter’s decision to enter the 2026 NFL Draft and leave Tennessee for his professional career changed after facing a foot injury. Surgery was necessary, forcing him to reconsider his path and return to college.

Carter faced complications returning to Tennessee. He accepted $427 from an agent for travel, leading to an NCAA suspension. Initially, the suspension was three games, but it resolved into a one-game consequence.

Turning Adversity into Philanthropy

Carter’s girlfriend, Mariah Bryant, is battling stage two breast cancer. In support, Carter shaved his head and pledged $427 for every tackle to Nashville charities aiding women with cancer. This initiative reflects his character and commitment to community support.

In addition to tackling donations, Carter will give $500 per sack, $1,000 for each interception or forced fumble, and $5,000 for any defensive touchdown.

Carter explained his motivation during a media session. “It also goes back to my mom. She wanted a foundation for women and girls. Seeing my girlfriend’s struggle firsthand gave me a different perspective,” he shared.

Community Impact and Coach’s Perspective

Tennessee’s coach, Josh Heupel, praised Carter’s actions. “He’s passionate about causes, clearly for personal reasons and his family, too. He genuinely cares about the community,” Heupel said.

Carter’s repayment of the $427 ticket contrasts with his punishment, highlighting NCAA regulations. Carter navigates such challenges by focusing on positive contributions, even if the rules seem unfair at times.
