Arch Manning and Dante Moore Fall in Draft Rankings

7 minutes ago 0

A month ago, Arch Manning from the Texas Longhorns and Dante Moore from the Oregon Ducks seemed certain to be the top two picks in the 2027 NFL draft. However, five weeks later, their positions have drastically changed. Neither is viewed as a top-10 pick according to several NFL draft analysts, including Mel Kiper of ESPN.

Known for his expertise in NFL draft analysis, Kiper recently shared his 2027 draft rankings. Both Manning and Moore surprisingly landed outside the top-10, barely making the top-25. Notably, neither is listed among Kiper’s top five quarterbacks:

  • Drew Mestemaker, Oklahoma State
  • Darian Mensah, Miami
  • Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss
  • CJ Carr, Notre Dame
  • Austin Simmons, Missouri

In Kiper’s analysis, Manning is ranked as the sixth quarterback on his list but remains within the top-25 players due to his potential. Kiper highlighted Manning’s size, mobility, and arm strength as valuable traits for an NFL quarterback. Manning’s ability to pass while on the run and his ten rushing touchdowns last season demonstrate his skills.

Manning has dropped to QB6 on my board, but he’s still a top-25 player because of the skill set. I see the size, mobility and arm strength that NFL teams look for in a franchise quarterback.

Despite his talents, inconsistency with accuracy and decision-making affects Manning’s evaluation. Observers of his gameplay can experience both excitement at his potential and concerns about his struggles. While his accuracy has improved since 2025, further development is necessary.

Manning’s fluctuating performance reflects his challenges against varying college football opposition, impacting his draft stock. In contrast, Moore’s decline is largely due to a concussion he suffered during a game against USC, rather than inadequate performance. In his four games this season, Moore recorded a 69.7% completion rate for 926 yards, with nine touchdowns and no interceptions.

Kiper conveyed optimism regarding Moore’s potential to rise in draft rankings, contingent on his return and strong performance in upcoming matches and the College Football Playoff. If Moore excels, he might secure a top-15 pick position by April.

When Moore is at the top of his game, he’s an impressive passer. He changes arm angles, he’s mechanically sound, he displays precise ball placement, and there’s good touch on his deep ball. Throws look effortless because of his arm strength, and he can deliver strikes while rolling out.

Though Moore possesses significant talent, he must demonstrate effectiveness against high-level opponents. His notable performance against Penn State in 2025 raised expectations for his role in the 2026 draft. However, replicating this success consistently remains a challenge.
