Apple Pay Faces Service Disruptions, Users Report Transaction Issues

2 days ago 0

Apple Pay experienced service disruptions on Friday, leading to transaction and fund transfer problems. According to outage-tracking website Downdetector, user reports surged as they struggled with payments via Apple’s digital wallet service.

By just before 6 p.m. ET, nearly 1,400 issues had been reported, with most complaints centered on fund transfers and payment processing. Despite the large number of reports, Apple had yet to formally acknowledge a widespread outage or disclose the specific cause of the disruptions.

Newsweek reached out to Apple for comment on Friday afternoon. Apple Pay enables users to make contactless purchases and online payments using devices such as the iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac.

This outage is not isolated. Apple Pay and related Wallet services have previously faced intermittent disruptions. Users occasionally report failing transactions, Apple Cash transfer issues, or access problems with Wallet features. Although such outages are generally resolved quickly, they can temporarily hinder users from completing purchases or sending funds.

What Is the ‘Unable to Connect to Wallet Services’ Error?

Many affected users reported seeing an “Unable to Connect to Wallet Services” error message when trying to access Apple Wallet or conduct transactions. This error suggests that the Wallet app is unable to communicate with Apple’s backend systems, blocking users from adding cards, verifying payment methods, or processing transactions.

While the exact reason for Friday’s issues was unclear, similar errors often arise during server outages or disruptions impacting Apple Pay and related services.
