Anya Taylor-Joy Stars in Apple TV’s New Crime Thriller ‘Lucky’

Anya Taylor-Joy has returned to a familiar environment: the desert. Known for her roles in Furiosa and the upcoming Dune: Part Three, she now tackles the California heat in Lucky, a gripping Apple TV crime thriller. In this series, she faces a relentless pursuit while showcasing her survival instincts.

In Lucky, Taylor-Joy portrays a con artist who awakens in a hotel room, realizing betrayal by someone close. As she becomes a fugitive, the FBI and a crime boss chase her for $10 million. Her father, a criminal now in prison, supports her through phone calls. Lauren Neustadter, an executive producer, highlights Lucky’s journey of taking control of her life.

Timothy Olyphant plays her father while Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor portrays an FBI agent. From the opening episode, Lucky finds herself trapped in a car trunk, confronting threats with improvised weapons, and fighting for survival in the desert. Neustadter discusses this transformation from a con artist focused solely on schemes to an evolved character.

The series, featuring seven episodes, premieres Wednesday. It includes a strong female soundtrack led by Fiona Apple, with contributions from Sleater-Kinney and Siouxsie Sioux. Annette Bening takes on the role of a ruthless mob leader, balancing power struggles within the criminal world.

Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine approached Taylor-Joy, encouraging her to lead the series and debut as an executive producer. Taylor-Joy embraced the challenge, having been captivated by the novel and the character of Lucky.
