Allegations Emerge Against Senate Candidate Graham Platner

New Accusations

The Washington Post published a report detailing claims from Lyndsey Fifield, Platner’s ex-girlfriend. She accused him of removing condoms during sex despite her insistence that he wear them. Fifield stated he did this covertly without informing her. Previously, she accused him of physical misconduct, including grabbing her forcefully and twisting her arm.

Platner’s supporters have dismissed these claims, labeling Fifield as a conservative operative. Fifield, who worked at The Heritage Foundation, voiced her concerns during a previous off-the-record interview.

Recent Allegations

A separate accusation of rape against Platner emerged, made by Jenny Racicot, a former partner. She claimed Platner, while intoxicated, entered her home and raped her. Racicot detailed the assault, stating it occurred in 2021 in Washington, D.C., when Platner was nearly blackout drunk.

Platner refuted these allegations in a video statement following the report. He noted the campaign was evaluating its next steps amid the looming race deadline.

Political Reactions

Several of Platner’s previous supporters withdrew their endorsements. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, known for backing him, urged him to step aside. Warren emphasized the need for leaders in Washington who uphold values against sexual assault. Sanders echoed this sentiment, recommending Platner withdraw from the race.

Platner has until July 13 to withdraw if the Democratic Party is to select a new candidate for the general election in November. The ongoing allegations have led to significant shifts among Democratic leaders, impacting his campaign severely.
