Hasan Piker Criticizes NJ Governor Over Anti-ICE Protests

3 weeks ago 0

Marxist political commentator and Twitch streamer Hasan Piker criticized New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill during a livestream on Sunday. He accused the Democratic governor of supporting the Trump administration’s immigration agenda with her response to anti-ICE protests at a Newark detention facility.

Sherrill faced backlash after defending the deployment of state police around the demonstrations outside Delaney Hall, an ICE detention center in Newark. She stated that she wanted to prevent unrest from giving the federal government a reason to expand immigration operations in New Jersey.

I refuse to let that happen in New Jersey. I will not give ICE a pretext, Sherrill said during a news segment aired during Piker’s stream.

Piker mocked and opposed Sherrill’s explanation.

He remarked, “Yeah, I won’t give ICE a pretext. So I’m going to ensure that they don’t have to do anything because I’m going to do it myself,” Additionally, he described the situation as characteristic of the centrist wing of the Democratic Party.

Protests continued outside Delaney Hall, with activists claiming poor conditions for detainees. The Department of Homeland Security denied these allegations.

Piker further accused Sherrill of facilitating Trump’s immigration policies, saying that the actual concern should be the conditions inside the facility, not just the protests.

The real story is the horrifying conditions inside of this facility … and the governor acting as though she’s powerless to put a stop to it, he said.

Piker criticized the use of state police, describing them as being in anti-riot gear and on horseback, linking their actions with federal immigration policies.

He also condemned the treatment of journalists covering the protests, asserting that reporters were mistreated. Piker alleged, “They’re doing Israeli occupying force s—. It’s disgusting.”

Throughout the livestream, Piker emphasized the role of Democrats in immigration enforcement policies, advocating for systemic change through elections. He urged viewers to elect officials who would challenge these practices.

In support of his stance, Piker highlighted his involvement in canvassing for candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of America, including billionaire Tom Steyer and congressional candidate Adam Hamamy, whom he defended against media scrutiny.

Governor Sherrill’s office did not comment when contacted by Fox News Digital. Greg Wehner of Fox News Digital reported on the story, inviting readers to send story tips and ideas via email or Twitter.
