EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Abdul Carter expressed disapproval towards Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart following Dart’s involvement in introducing President Donald Trump at a recent rally. The linebacker stressed the significance of the situation beyond football.
“He not only represents himself and what he does, but he represents all of us and that goes for anybody who wears a Giants uniform,” Carter stated after a practice session. Carter emphasized his duty to oppose Dart’s decision publicly due to his beliefs, and his commitment to show both teammates and the public where he stands.
Carter took to social media to express his dissatisfaction after noting Dart’s video with Trump. He later confirmed discussions with Dart and assured no animosity existed between them. “It doesn’t mean that me and Jaxson hate each other or we have beef,” Carter explained. He reiterated their close professional relationship and shared goals as teammates.
President Trump has been vocal against Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, labeling them discriminatory. His push to eradicate these programs raises concerns among Black Americans who have benefited from related employment opportunities. Additionally, Trump has faced criticism for a racist social media post involving former President Barack Obama and his wife.
Dart avoided mentioning Trump by name in his statement, touching on the honor of introducing the President without directly addressing teammate concerns over his involvement. Carter clarified he did not seek an apology from Dart, valuing a mutual respect for differing beliefs.
Dart and Carter engaged in multiple conversations, aligning their focus on team goals. Coach John Harbaugh and fellow teammate Jameis Winston discussed the unity displayed by Dart and Carter amid broader tensions in the U.S. Winston highlighted the diverse backgrounds of the players and their collaborative spirit.
Harbaugh dismissed concerns over team division, appreciating the opportunity for open dialogue. He believed discussing and confronting such issues strengthened team dynamics.
“I think it’s made us better, honestly,” Harbaugh said. He valued addressing critical topics during team conversations, fostering success without dictating solutions.
Injury Update: Gunner Olszewski, receiver and specialist, suffered a noncontact injury during practice, with concerning signs as he was carted off the field.
Contract Signing: Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese finalized his rookie contract, completing the draft class. Francis “Sisi” Mauigoa had signed earlier in the week.
