Taya Kyle, the widow of U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, is speaking out against remarks made by Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner. She labeled Platner’s comments as ‘cowardly’ and described them as a ‘cheap political trick’ that undermines Gold Star families.
Appearing on ‘The Sunday Briefing,’ Taya Kyle criticized Platner, a progressive Democrat, for alleging that her late husband inflated his kill numbers by shooting innocent civilians. She emphasized how such claims not only seek attention but also misrepresent a national hero who can no longer defend himself.
Kyle stated, ‘It’s cowardly and lowbrow to lie about someone else, and it detracts from genuine conversations that need to happen.’ Kyle accused Platner of using these tactics to align himself with someone beloved by many.
The controversy arose from Platner’s appearance on a 2024 episode of the ‘Green Beret Chronicle Show,’ where he suggested Chris Kyle’s high kill count was due to less discriminating fire compared to more professional units.
Additionally, Platner is facing backlash over a deleted Reddit post, where he mocked a wounded U.S. soldier, intensifying criticism from various quarters. Robert O’Neill, known for his role in Osama bin Laden’s death, condemned Platner’s remarks as ‘way out of line.’
Platner, a Marine Corps veteran himself, has attributed his inflammatory social media posts to his battle with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, O’Neill and others reject this justification, calling it no excuse for such ‘vile hatred.’
