Caitlin Clark has begun her third WNBA season impressively with the Indiana Fever. Last year, a groin injury limited her to only 13 games, making her current performance even more noteworthy.
While she has moved past the previous lower-body injury, Clark is now managing a lingering back issue. This resulted in adjustments during games and her unexpected absence during Indiana’s fourth game against the Portland Fire.
Despite the challenges, Clark and head coach Stephanie White are not overly concerned about the back problem. They emphasize that it’s not a significant issue.
Clark explained her journey in understanding and managing her injuries. “I don’t think it necessarily started at a certain point,” she mentioned. “It’s been over the last year, learning more about my body. Before, I’d always say, ‘I’m fine, go play,’ maybe being too hyperaware of things. I’m finding the balance now.”
The injury hasn’t affected her performance. Clark is having her best season yet, averaging 23.8 points, 9.0 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game. Her shooting stats are also impressive: 43.2% from the field, 34.8% from three-point range, and 96.4% from the free-throw line.
