During the Baltimore Orioles’ game against the Detroit Tigers, Apple TV reporter Tricia Whitaker faced an unexpected challenge. While covering the event, Whitaker was struck on the forearm by a liner from Adley Rutschman. She shared photos on social media, showing herself being attended to by the Orioles’ medical team.
Whitaker assured everyone that she was fine, albeit with an ice pack and wrap on her arm. On her X account, she humorously acknowledged Rutschman’s powerful hitting, writing, “In case anyone was wondering — Adley Rutschman’s exit velo is still elite. My forearm is proof.” She joked about being on the ’10-day IL’ with forearm discomfort.
Fortunately, she had some recovery time as the subsequent game between the Orioles and Tigers was postponed due to rain moving through the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic on Memorial Day weekend. Baltimore secured a 7-4 victory that Friday, with Rutschman contributing a double and a memorable line drive.
Before the incident, Whitaker was also present at Truist Park in Atlanta, covering the game between the Atlanta Braves and Texas Rangers. Keeping her sense of humor intact, she later posted about her presence at the Indy 500 on Instagram, focusing on avoiding potential mishaps there.
The incident adds an element of unpredictability to Whitaker’s reporting adventures, with her handling the unexpected with grace and humor.
