Democrats and media pundits are under scrutiny for their response to Tulsi Gabbard’s resignation from her role as Director of National Intelligence. Her departure followed her husband’s cancer diagnosis. Tony Kinnett, national correspondent for The Daily Signal, criticized the immediate political reactions during an appearance on Fox & Friends Weekend. He highlighted the tendency to offer provocative commentary as soon as news breaks, revealing character flaws in many individuals.
Gabbard plans to leave her position on June 30, as stated in her formal resignation letter obtained by Fox News Digital. She expressed gratitude for her role but explained that her husband has been diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer.
Some media figures and Democratic lawmakers criticized Gabbard’s decision. Former Deputy DNI Beth Sanner appeared on CNN, offering condolences while joking about her role. Senator Adam Schiff, D-Calif., commented on social media, suggesting her resignation was her only positive contribution.
Kinnett argued that focusing on politics in response to such a personal issue reflects a worrying trend in political discourse. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing family, commending Gabbard for leaving her career to support her husband.
Gabbard, a U.S. Army Reserve officer and combat veteran, took office in February 2025. She served in Congress for multiple terms before transitioning from Democrat to independent and subsequently joining the Republican Party.
Her resignation letter highlighted her husband’s support throughout their marriage and her deployment experiences. She stated she couldn’t ask him to face his health battle alone while she continues in her demanding role.
Former President Trump responded positively to her resignation, praising her work and wishing her husband a speedy recovery.
