DOJ Investigates Voter Fraud in Michigan and Maryland Ballot Mix-Up Sparks Audit Calls

1 month ago 0

Harmeet Dhillon, U.S. Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, is involved in the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) investigation into voter fraud in Wayne County, Michigan. The probe highlights instances of fraudulent voting and non-compliance with the Help America Vote Act.

Meanwhile, a mishap during Maryland’s primary elections has led to renewed Republican demands for a federal audit of the state’s voter rolls. Roughly 400,000 voters who requested mail-in ballots received ballots for the wrong party. This error has prompted immediate calls from Maryland’s Freedom Caucus for state election officials to release voter rolls for federal review.

The Maryland Freedom Caucus demands Secretary of the Election Board release voter rolls to the federal government for a thorough audit. This move is necessary to identify the root cause of the mistake, the Freedom Caucus stated.

The error, reported by the Freedom Caucus, undermines public confidence in the June 23 primary election. They emphasize the importance of scrutinizing each ballot to ensure only valid votes are counted. According to them, the error resulted from actions by both the Democrats and Maryland’s State Board of Elections.

Jared DeMarinis, Maryland State Administrator of Elections, confirmed that approximately 400,000 incorrect mail-in ballots have been issued and will be rectified with new ballots sent to affected voters. The vendor responsible, Taylor Print & Visual Impressions (TPVI), apologized and stated ballots will be corrected and re-mailed by May 29, 2026.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) has also raised concerns about Maryland’s voter roll management. In December, they filed a lawsuit accusing the state of failing to follow federal laws on maintaining accurate voter rolls. The RNC points to discrepancies like voter registration figures exceeding the number of eligible adult citizens in some counties.

In response, the RNC’s Joe Gruters underscored the necessity for strict adherence to federal transparency requirements to secure voter confidence.
