A recent boxing match ended in controversy when a fighter was knocked out within the first five seconds. On Friday, 23-year-old Edwin Castillo lost to Viktor Jurk, 26, in a heavyweight bout that took place on the undercard of Karen Chukhadzhian vs. Paddy Donovan in Germany.
Jurk delivered a powerful left hook as the fighters met in the ring’s center, instantly taking Castillo to the canvas. This sudden knockout prompted discussions among fans who noticed inconsistencies in the match.
Some speculated on whether a glove-touching gesture, seen as a mark of respect, was misused. Before the bell, the fighters had touched gloves, but Jurk’s following action raised questions.
Some fans accused Jurk of tricking Castillo. One user explained that Castillo attempted the sportsmanlike glove tap, only to be struck unexpectedly.
He ignored the gentleman tap to put this hook. That’s super unfair…
The debate extended beyond respect for traditional boxing etiquette. Some questioned if both fighters were involved in staged antics. A critic labeled the scene as a calculated ‘dive,’ citing Castillo’s controlled fall as evidence.
Discussions continued with observations that Jurk’s punch might not have hit Castillo squarely. Despite this, Castillo remained on the ground for over two minutes, causing further speculation.
Regardless of opinions, this was Jurk’s 12th career knockout, improving his record to 14-0. In contrast, Castillo now stands at 13-3, with three losses in his last four matches.
