The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has charged Gabriela Gonzalez, a social media influencer, her father Francisco Gonzalez, and her former boyfriend Faron Cordrey, with plotting to kill singer Jack Avery. The charges include attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and solicitation of murder. The alleged plot was part of a custody dispute involving Gabriela Gonzalez’s 7-year-old daughter.
District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that an FBI investigation led to the charges, which were transferred to L.A. County prosecutors. According to court documents, witnesses told investigators that Gabriela Gonzalez expressed a desire for Avery’s death and discussed hiring a hitman. The alleged plan involved staging Avery’s death to appear as a shooting or accident.
Prosecutors claim Gabriela Gonzalez asked Cordrey to hire a hitman through the dark web between 2020 and 2021. Investigators allege that her father provided Cordrey with $10,000 to hire a supposed hitman, who was an undercover FBI agent. Hochman commented on the case, highlighting the gravity of a father allegedly aiding in such a crime.
Cordrey reportedly communicated with an undercover officer posing as a hitman in September 2021. He discussed payment, proof of death, and identified Avery as the target. It is alleged that he informed the officer that Gabriela Gonzalez wanted the murder carried out and that her father would finance it.
In a podcast interview, Jack Avery recalled the moment the FBI warned him about the threat to his life, saying, “Someone hired someone to kill me.” If convicted on the charges, each of the three accused faces a potential 25 years to life in state prison.
