UCLA’s Nico Iamaleava Announces Return Amid Injury

4 hours ago 0

UCLA Bruins quarterback Nico Iamaleava will not be able to complete his promising season due to a season-ending injury sustained against Oregon. Despite this setback, Iamaleava has affirmed his commitment to UCLA for the next season.

Iamaleava integrated effectively with the Bruins and first-year head coach Bob Chesney, leading the team to an impressive 4-0 start. His season was cut short by a torn ACL during their Week 6 win over Oregon. UCLA aims to preserve their flawless record without him for the remainder of the season.

Iamaleava intends to return next season, opting against entering the 2027 NFL Draft, as noted by CBS Sports College Football insider Matt Zenitz.

This choice allows Iamaleava additional time to recover and compile more game footage for NFL scouts ahead of the 2028 draft. Returning to college appears seen as strategic due to potential draft risks associated with his recent injury.

UCLA might prefer Iamaleava as their starting quarterback again due to his impressive performance. With Iamaleava, the team averages 39.2 points per game, compared to 22.5 points under Ty Dieffenbach. Regardless of whether Iamaleava starts next season, UCLA faces immediate challenges tied to maintaining their perfect season.

The Bruins aim to propel their success into the upcoming Week 9 game against the Nevada Wolf Pack.
