Major League Baseball honored Francisco Lindor, naming him the 2026 Roberto Clemente Award recipient. The New York Mets shortstop earned this prestigious humanitarian award, which is given to a player epitomizing MLB values both on and off the field.

Lindor is the fifth player born in Puerto Rico to receive this accolade, which is named after the renowned Puerto Rican icon, Roberto Clemente.

The Mets celebrated Lindor’s achievement via social media, noting his exceptional character and contributions. They wrote, “Representing the game of Baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy, and positive contributions, both on and off the field,” and congratulated “@Lindor12BC as the 2026 Roberto Clemente Award winner!”

They also shared a video narrated by Lindor, showcasing his charitable work. “I’m all about bringing people together,” Lindor expressed. “I’m all about bringing them to the next step and learning from them as well.”

Lindor has actively collaborated with the nonprofit Seen to aid families with children facing physical disabilities. He launched “Lindor’s Leaders,” a development initiative for Bayside High School that emphasizes mental health, communication, and teamwork to cultivate community leaders.

His efforts extend to conducting youth baseball clinics, distributing backpacks and school supplies to children annually, supporting environmental organizations, and renovating athletic facilities in his hometown of Caguas.

Lindor achieved this recognition after completing his 12th MLB season and marking his 300th career home run. This is his first Roberto Clemente Award, although he was nominated by the Mets for the past four years.

Lindor reflected on the award, sharing with MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo, “It’s a little bit surreal, you know? It’s bigger than baseball, in a way. We are in the entertainment business, and we are there to bring smiles and joy to people, but also to carry it off the field, to me, is even cooler. It’s something I’ll forever continue to do.”
