A Florida mother, Tara Johnson, embarked on a journey to explore her adoptive daughter Agnas’ background. The DNA test results provided an unexpected revelation about their connection. Tara had grown up with a strong sense of identity, celebrating her Sicilian roots, and she wanted the same for all her children.

Tara decided to test her 7-year-old daughter Agnas’ DNA to uncover the cultures and places that form her heritage. Tara emphasized the importance of celebrating Agnas’ history, recognizing it existed before she joined their family. As a mother to Hallie, 13, Theo, 9, and Rowan, 6, with her partner Troy, Tara had some expectations about the test results. Agnas’ biological mother had mentioned a Lebanese grandfather, while her biological father’s background was mostly unknown.

However, the test results surprised the family. Shared in a TikTok video by Tara (@tarakole), the results indicated Agnas was 24.6% Scottish and Welsh, 23.6% Southern Italian, 19.3% English, and 5.8% Dutch. The discovery of Southern Italian ancestry thrilled Tara, as connecting this heritage with Sicilian roots felt special.

Though Tara and Agnas don’t share biological ties, the results highlighted a potential shared piece of ancestral history. Nevertheless, the absence of Lebanese ancestry led Tara to consider more testing options for precise regional estimates. She acknowledged that DNA tests provide estimates, not definitive identities or family histories.

Tara’s dedication to embracing Agnas’ background stems from her commitment to keep her daughter connected to every aspect of her story. The family maintains relationships with Agnas’ biological family members, ensuring she feels loved without choosing between them.
