Investigators Examine Connection Between Murders of Homeless People in Los Angeles

2 months ago 0

Authorities are currently investigating whether the killings of four homeless individuals in Los Angeles are related. The deaths occurred between October and January, all within the vicinity of the 1300 block of East 120th Street in the unincorporated region of Los Angeles, as reported by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau.

One of the victims was former NFL player Kevin Johnson, who was discovered on January 21 at a homeless encampment. According to a local news station, KABC, Johnson, 55, succumbed to blunt force trauma and stab injuries. All victims lived in homeless encampments, officials confirmed.

The investigation became more prominent on October 5, 2025, when a woman named Michelle Steele, 52, was shot in the head in the Compton Creek area. Sadly, she passed away on November 12, 2025, after being hospitalized, sources revealed to KABC.

The next incident occurred three weeks later, on December 4, involving Octavio Arias, a 52-year-old homeless man, also murdered in the same location. Records from the L.A. County Medical Examiner indicated that Arias died from head and neck trauma.

The fourth murder took place after Johnson’s death, with the victim identified as Mauro Alfaro, also in his 50s. Alfaro was killed on January 26, with blunt force trauma as the cause of death, according to KABC sources.

Detectives are actively considering the possibility that these four murders might be the work of a single perpetrator, as reported by KABC. So far, no suspect has been identified, insiders from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau shared.

Investigators are striving to determine the motives behind these crimes, exploring theories such as potential dissatisfaction with the homeless residing in the area or possible links to drugs or gang activities. However, there is currently no substantial evidence to definitively connect these cases, according to sources.

Kevin Johnson, known for his time as a defensive lineman with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Oakland Raiders from 1995 to 1997, is a notable figure amongst the victims. The case continues to draw significant attention as investigators work diligently to uncover the truth behind these tragic events.
