In a revealing interview with Nine News Australia, Bill Gates expressed profound regret over his interactions with Jeffrey Epstein, especially following the disclosure of files naming Gates. The billionaire referred to his association with Epstein as “foolish” and labeled the latter’s claims as “false.”
“Apparently, Jeffrey wrote an email to himself. That email was never sent, the email is false,” Gates mentioned. “So, I don’t know what his thinking was there. Was he trying to attack me in some way?”
Gates emphasized his regret and apologized for the time spent with the convicted sex offender. The Microsoft co-founder was among several affluent individuals mentioned in files released by the Justice Department linked to Epstein.
Gates disclosed that he first met Epstein in 2011, years after Epstein’s conviction for sex crimes. They shared “a number of dinners,” but Gates denied ever visiting Epstein’s private island. Gates explained the rationale behind the meetings was Epstein’s ability to connect with wealthy individuals who could support global health.
“The focus was always, he knew a lot of very rich people, and he was saying he could get them to give money to global health,” Gates explained. “In retrospect, that was a dead end, and I’ve said many times, but I’ll say again, I was foolish to spend time with him. I was one of many people who regret ever knowing him.”
An investigation of the emails from 2013, sent by Epstein to himself, implied that Gates was involved in an extramarital affair and was obtaining illicit drugs. One email, dated July 18, 2013, expressed Epstein’s intention to resign due to being “caught up in a severe marital dispute between Melinda and Bill.”
The emails, albeit poorly composed with typos, suggested questionable activities, such as procuring drugs for Gates. Epstein described these activities as “helping Bill to get drugs, in order to deal with consequences of sex with Russian girls, to facilitating his illicit trysts, with married women, to being asked to provide Adderall.”
A spokesperson for Gates dismissed these allegations, stating to NBC News, “These claims are absolutely absurd and completely false. The only thing these documents demonstrate is Epstein’s frustration that he did not have an ongoing relationship with Gates and the lengths he would go to entrap and defame.”
Melinda French Gates, in a conversation with NPR’s “Wild Card” podcast, spoke of her “unbelievable sadness” upon discovering her former husband’s inclusion in the documents, stating, “Whatever questions remain there… for those people, and for even my ex-husband, they need to answer to those things, not me,” adding her relief to be distanced from the situation.
The Justice Department’s files highlighted Gates along with other influential figures like President Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and former President Bill Clinton, none of whom have faced charges from authorities concerning Epstein. Clinton, alongside former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, plans to testify in Congress about Epstein’s matters shortly. Meanwhile, Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former associate, continues her sentence in Texas after being convicted of crimes related to Epstein.
Epstein’s demise occurred in 2019 while in custody facing sex trafficking charges, with his death officially classified as a suicide.
