Sienna Bialek’s Passion for Volleyball and Nursing

1 hour ago 0

Metea Valley’s libero, Sienna Bialek, balances her love for volleyball with a deep commitment to serving others. Standing at 5 feet, the senior aims to pursue a career in nursing. “I love helping people in everyday life, and I would love to do that as a profession,” Bialek mentioned. “I want to love my job when I’m older, so I think that is something I would like.”

Her desire to help others is inspired by her grandmother, Rose, a recently retired radiology nurse. “She is really excited because she also loves to help people as I do,” Bialek shared. “We’re the only two in our family to be nurses, and we share that passion.”

Sienna’s teammates confirm her dedication. “Sienna will make the best nurse,” said Rachel Keeler, a Metea Valley senior setter. “She is caring, thoughtful, and puts others before herself. She considers how actions might affect others before herself.”

Bialek excels both on and off the court, maintaining a 4.0 GPA as an honors student. She serves as the vice president of Metea Valley’s Best Buddies club and is active in the Key Club, participating in community volunteer work. Her leadership is evident in volleyball matches too.

“Her teamwork really shows on the volleyball court,” Keeler noted. “She sacrifices everything and takes responsibility even when it’s not her fault.” Despite being the smallest player, Bialek shines in defense, a role that requires hard work and seldom sees glory.

Metea Valley coach Dave Macdonald praised her tenacity. “She’s done a fantastic job,” he said. “As one of our captains, she leads by example with her hustle and speed. I compare her to Mighty Mouse; she gets all over the place.”

On October 14, 2026, Bialek contributed eight digs and two assists during a match against Geneva in Aurora. Despite their 25-14, 25-8 loss, coach Macdonald highlighted her resilience against formidable opponents. “She’s faced great hitters this season and responded well,” Macdonald said.

Bialek’s athleticism traces back to her childhood in gymnastics, which she began at the age of 3. However, volleyball caught her interest in the seventh grade after her father, Robert, suggested she try it. Bialek eventually joined Sports Performance and shifted from gymnastics to volleyball.

Her senior night with the Mustangs marked her second to last home game. “We fought hard but got overcome today,” Bialek remarked. “I love all my teammates, and we work well together.” Many of her fellow seniors also plan to enter the healthcare field, following diverse specialties.

“This reflects their determination,” Macdonald said. “They’re not just building this program but also making a difference in health care.” Some of Macdonald’s former players have become doctors and nurses, showing a strong tradition of caring professionals. “This group will achieve great things,” he added. “They exhibit the dedication needed to excel as healthcare professionals.”

Bialek hopes to specialize as a pediatric nurse, driven by her affinity for children. She deeply values her time with the Mustangs, who are set to face Neuqua Valley in the Class 4A Downers Grove North Regional semifinals on October 27. “We form a cohesive team,” Bialek said. “I’m eager to continue competing and seeing what the future holds.”
