Intense Search for Savannah Guthrie’s Missing Mother

2 months ago 0

The determined search effort to find Nancy Guthrie, mother of Savannah Guthrie, well-known host of the “Today” show, has now reached its fifth day. Her family members are fervently appealing to the public for her safe return, as Nancy is believed to have been taken from her home in Arizona while asleep early on a Sunday morning. Despite the gravity of the situation, no suspects or persons of interest have been named, leaving authorities at a loss as to her whereabouts or whether she was specifically targeted.

Developments in the Investigation

On Thursday at 1 p.m. ET, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department plans to hold a briefing to discuss the case’s developments. Nancy was last seen at her Catalina Foothills home, which is situated north of Tucson, on the night preceding her reported disappearance. Her absence was noted on Sunday when she failed to attend church, prompting her family to file a missing person’s report at noon that day.

In a heartfelt video message shared on social media, Savannah Guthrie, alongside her siblings, expressed their desperate hope for their mother’s return. “Everyone is looking for you, Mommy, everywhere,” Savannah expressed with deep emotion. “We will not rest. Your children will not rest until we are together again.” A missing person alert issued by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department further emphasizes the urgency of the situation.

Concerns for Nancy Guthrie’s Health

Nancy Guthrie, at the age of 84, faces substantial health challenges, including limited mobility and some physical ailments, though it has been confirmed she does not suffer from cognitive issues. Sheriff Chris Nanos highlighted the critical nature of her missing medication, noting that going without it for 24 hours could be fatal.

“Our mom is our heart and our home,” Savannah Guthrie shared in the family’s video message. “Her health, her heart is fragile. She lives in constant pain. She is without any medicine. She needs it to survive. She needs it not to suffer.”

Law Enforcement and FBI Involvement

The FBI has joined the investigation, deploying additional agents and resources to assist local investigators in Pima County. This step illustrates the seriousness and widespread concern over Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. The sheriff’s department is currently examining potential ransom letters as part of their investigation, one of which was received by ABC Tucson affiliate KGUN and passed along to law enforcement for scrutiny.

Addressing reports of a ransom letter, Savannah said, “As a family, we are doing everything that we can. We are ready to talk. However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated. We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you and we are ready to listen. Please reach out to us.”

Authorities urge anyone with information about this case to contact 911 or reach out directly to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.
