The Texas Longhorns faced a surprising defeat in the Red River Rivalry, losing to the Oklahoma Sooners 27-24 in an unexpected turn of events. Although Texas entered the game as the top-ranked team, their performance in the final quarter allowed Oklahoma to secure an upset win.

Early in the game, Texas seemed dominant. Arch Manning made an impressive play, leading to a 41-yard touchdown pass. By halftime, the Longhorns had gained a 17-7 lead. However, the momentum shifted in the second half as the Longhorns’ offense began to stall while the Sooners gained traction.

In the third quarter, Oklahoma managed a field goal, but both teams primarily exchanged punts. The game changed in the fourth quarter when Lloyd Avant’s touchdown run tied the score, bringing new energy to the Sooners.

The tide shifted further when Manning’s pass was intercepted by Peyton Bowen, who ran 42 yards for a touchdown, putting Oklahoma ahead 24-17 mid-way through the quarter.

Despite the setback, Manning connected with Cam Coleman for a substantial gain, setting up a touchdown pass to Jermaine Bishop Jr., tying the game with just over six minutes left. Texas stopped an Oklahoma drive to regain possession and moved into scoring range.

However, a 52-yard field goal attempt by Texas went wide, leaving Oklahoma with control. Although Texas forced another punt, Manning’s subsequent interception ended their hopes for a comeback win.

With seconds left, Oklahoma managed two quick pass plays to enter field-goal range. Tate Sandell then successfully kicked a 47-yard field goal, sealing the victory as time expired.

This defeat marked Texas’ first loss of the season, affecting their standing in the SEC. Meanwhile, the Sooners improved to 3-2, aiming for a playoff spot.
