Journey Drummer Hospitalized During Tulsa Concert

Journey drummer Deen Castronovo had a medical emergency during the band’s performance in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The concert was abruptly paused after just two songs as Castronovo was taken to the hospital.

Video shared on X shows Keyboardist Jonathan Cain addressing the audience. “We’re going to see what happens as this progresses,” Cain said, “It’s an unfortunate situation. We’re very sorry. We’re hoping it’s only a delay, but please I’m sorry. Don’t worry. Have your prayers ready. Have your prayers ready for Deen Castronovo, everybody. Thank you.”

Neal Schon, Journey’s guitarist, assured concert-goers the show would continue despite Castronovo’s absence. The band’s drum technician, Steve Toomey, stepped in to play. Schon encouraged the crowd to applaud Toomey and promised the show would resume shortly.

The incident occurred as the band is on its “Final Frontier Tour,” which serves as a farewell. Journey aims to conclude the tour in San Francisco by late November.

Lead singer Arnel Pineda reassured fans about Castronovo’s condition, joking about the drummer consuming too much Gatorade. Schon dedicated the night’s performance to Castronovo and expressed optimism about his recovery. The full cause of the emergency remains undisclosed.

The lineup for the tour includes Castronovo along with Jonathan Cain, Neal Schon, Arnel Pineda, Jason Derlatka on keyboard, and bassist Todd Jensen. The tour began in February and continues through fall.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Schon highlighted the emotional aspect of the tour, emphasizing the band’s shared history and connection with its fans, describing the music as amazing and the fans as incredible.
