The Institute for the Study of Modern Authoritarianism (ISMA), known for its publication The UnPopulist, has released findings from its latest survey on populism. This survey reveals a shift in attitudes among voters who supported Kamala Harris for president.
According to the data collected, there is a noticeable increase in cynicism toward American elites among Harris supporters. In August 2024, prior to the presidential election, 59% of individuals who planned to vote for Harris strongly agreed that at least one of six American elites had harmed people like them for the elites’ own selfish interests. By June of the current year, this number had risen to 69%, marking a 10-point increase and representing the only significant change in the populist attitudes tracked by the survey.
The UnPopulist, an independent publication, is committed to defending liberal democracy against authoritarianism, both in the United States and globally. Through ISMA’s research, the publication continues to shed light on evolving political sentiments among voters.
