Debra Messing Endorses Republican Bruce Blakeman, Citing Concerns for New York

2 hours ago 0

Debra Messing has publicly defended her choice to support Bruce Blakeman, a Trump-backed Republican, in the upcoming New York gubernatorial election. Although Messing has been a lifelong Democrat, her focus on key issues such as voting rights, gay community, and gun control remains steadfast. She expressed her worry about the living conditions in New York City, stating, “I still stand by every one of those principles. What has changed is how I feel about the city and state I love dearly.”

Messing, known for her role in “Will & Grace,” has previously backed notable Democratic figures such as Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and Cynthia Nixon. Despite her criticism of Donald Trump in the past, she now endorses Blakeman due to concerns over affordability and safety in New York.

In her Instagram post, Messing highlighted the struggles of small business owners, teachers, nurses, and young residents who face rising living costs. She argued that increasing expenses, including congestion pricing, hinder New York City’s livelihood, risking the city’s essence as a hub of opportunity.

Addressing public safety concerns, she conveyed her fear regarding the violence on streets and subways. After reflecting on her past support for Governor Kathy Hochul, she questioned whether she was better off now than four years ago. She encouraged others to ask who they believe can improve life for loved ones and the community. For Messing, Blakeman’s campaign priorities on affordability and safety were convincing reasons to support him.

Though endorsed by President Trump, Messing’s choice isn’t about party lines but individual priorities. She noted Blakeman’s stance on being pro-choice and supporting gay rights as critical factors in her decision. “I don’t agree with him on everything, and I don’t expect to,” she said, emphasizing decisions based on conscience rather than party affiliation alone.
