Ana Navarro Discusses Her Republican Party Affiliation on ‘The View’

On a recent episode of “The View,” former Republican strategist Ana Navarro explained to actor Michael Douglas why she remains registered as a Republican voter despite being a vocal critic of President Donald Trump. Navarro stated that she stays Republican so she can participate in the closed primary elections in Florida, aiming to influence the primaries by voting against certain candidates.

“I’ve admired you for the last couple of years, but why aren’t you independent? How can you still be a Republican?” Douglas asked, prompting laughter from Navarro and the audience. Navarro replied, “I live in Florida where the primaries are closed, and I want to vote against those candidates, hoping to make a difference in the primaries.”

Navarro has faced criticism from conservatives for her alignment with many left-leaning policies while still identifying as a Republican. She recently addressed these criticisms, arguing that not all Republicans share Trump’s views, and she adheres to her understanding of traditional Republican values.

In previous discussions on “The View,” Navarro emphasized her belief in free trade, strong foreign policy, and pro-immigration policies, describing herself as an “old-fashioned Republican.” She likened her Republican affiliation to being Catholic, noting that one doesn’t need to agree with every aspect of an institution to identify with it.

Navarro’s participation in events like the 2024 Democratic National Convention and her support for Kamala Harris have also drawn attention, alongside her urging viewers to vote for a Democratic candidate in a key Florida congressional race.

Republican consultant Mary Marslender criticized Navarro, suggesting she is a “fake Republican” positioned strategically on “The View” to critique actual Republicans. Marslender argued that Navarro’s Republican affiliation is a credential that aids her career and presence on news programs.
