Adam Copeland’s Dream Realized at Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling’s Northern Rising

Adam Copeland took the opportunity to fulfill a childhood dream at Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling’s Northern Rising event on Saturday. It was hosted at the Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. This venue held a special place in Copeland’s heart, as he witnessed his first professional wrestling match there as a child.

Copeland did not have the chance to compete at Maple Leaf Gardens during his WWE tenure. The company had shifted its shows to a larger arena due to its growing popularity.

Maple Leaf Wrestling and All Elite Wrestling (AEW) provided Copeland with this unique chance to step into the MLP ring. He faced Steve Maclin, a top free agent in wrestling and a former U.S. Marine. Maclin had targeted Copeland, showing up on AEW’s “Dynamite” to attack him in the lead-up to the event.

Copeland vs. Maclin in a High-Intensity Street Fight

At 52, Copeland delivered a standout performance against Maclin in the thrilling main event. He demonstrated his legendary status by executing a suplex on Maclin with a ladder involved and a top rope splash through a table. Maclin matched Copeland’s intensity with powerful suplexes. The match featured intense moments and surprises, including interference from Maclin’s wife, Deonna Purrazzo, and the intervention of wrestling legend Rhino.

Copeland regained control by spearing Maclin through the ropes, securing a victory in the fight. He expressed gratitude to Maclin after the match, acknowledging the significance of competing at Maple Leaf Gardens.

Undisputed MLP Canadian Champion Crowned

Before the main event, Josh Alexander faced Stu Grayson for the Undisputed MLP Canadian Championship. Grayson entered as the interim champion, but Alexander, returning from a knee injury, sought to reclaim a title he never lost in the ring.

In a dramatic match, Alexander thwarted Grayson’s moves and, with help from Don Callis and a hidden screwdriver, emerged victorious after delivering two C4 piledrivers to Grayson.

Title Retentions and a New Tag Team Champion

The event also saw title defenses by Priscilla Kelly and Andrade El Idolo. Kelly maintained her MLP Canadian Women’s Championship against Nikki Storm, asserting control throughout. Andrade retained his AEW National Championship against Rohan Raja, demonstrating his wrestling prowess.

The Grizzled Young Veterans, James Drake and Zack Gibson, triumphed in their bid for the MLP Canadian Tag Team Championship. They emerged as victors amidst interference and tough competition.
