Economist Criticizes Socialist Figures for Profiting in Capitalist System

Socialist and progressive individuals are capitalizing on their criticism of capitalism, according to economist Stephen Moore. They have become wealthy within the free-market framework they often critique.

Capitalizing on Critique

Stephen Moore, former senior economic advisor to President Trump, shared with Fox News Digital that the United States uniquely rewards those challenging capitalism. He highlighted how public figures like Senator Bernie Sanders and online commentator Hasan Piker have benefited from the American economy while promoting socialist policies.

“There’s no country in the world where you can get rich off of attacking free-market capitalism better than in the United States,” Moore told Fox Digital.

A USA Today opinion piece echoed this sentiment, criticizing the affluent lifestyles of figures like Piker and Sanders, who gained wealth through the capitalist system they oppose.

Questions of Hypocrisy

Moore pointed out a perceived hypocrisy among socialist figures, who are wealthy and yet criticize the system that enabled their prosperity. He suggested they should consider redistributing their wealth, questioning why they benefit from capitalism while advocating wealth-sharing policies.

“If these people really believed and shared the wealth policies they espouse, maybe they could start with themselves,” Moore observed.

He noted that liberal socialists generally give less in charitable donations compared to free-market proponents.

Wealth and Perception

Some socialists attempt to hide their wealth to seem more relatable to the public, Moore said. Nonetheless, leaders within the democratic socialist movement are often affluent themselves.

This trend exemplifies the unique position of the United States, where one can profit by opposing the very system that facilitates wealth accumulation.
