NFL quarterbacks often endure intense physical stress during games, with injuries sidelining key players early in the season. However, Cincinnati Bengals’ quarterback Joe Burrow experienced a rare occurrence. Following a game against the Houston Texans, Burrow mentioned to Texans defender Will Anderson Jr. that a hit ‘popped my rib back into place.’
Although Anderson initially believed Burrow was joking, footage released by the NFL on Tuesday reveals Burrow recounting the event to his teammates. He informed receiver Ja’Marr Chase that a hit made him feel better, leaving his teammates surprised and seeking clarification from the QB.
“One of those hits popped my rib back in place,” Burrow reiterated to his teammates.
Teammates suspect a particular hit by Danielle Hunter caused the adjustment. Receiver Tee Higgins recalled Burrow standing and expressing discomfort.
Burrow had been dealing with back issues leading up to Week 2, appearing on the injury report. Despite his questionable status, he participated in the game against the Texans, showing improvement post-impact. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor commented on Burrow’s post-game condition as ‘good’ but indicated he was not yet fit for a full week of practice.
Burrow’s unexpected physical relief brought some positivity to Bengals fans, as the quarterback emerged without further complications from the challenging play. His status for the upcoming game against the Pittsburgh Steelers remains uncertain but hopeful.
