After experiencing the heaviest September rain in seven years, Chicago residents should brace for more wet weather in the coming days. According to Gino Izzi, senior meteorologist at the National Weather Service, the forecast predicts light rain and cloudy skies. He described Monday’s weather as described as “more drizzly.”
The rain over the weekend broke records at O’Hare International Airport for the highest two-day total reported in September since 2019. Saturday delivered 0.86 inches of rainfall, while Sunday saw 1.21 inches. Although starting with overcast skies, Tuesday is expected to clear up gradually.
The heavy rainfall on Sunday forced the cancellation of an open-water swim event in the Chicago River and brought the McCook Reservoir in the southwest suburbs to 95% capacity. Riot Fest events were cut short on Saturday night due to the storm and faced delays on Sunday. Festivalgoers navigated mud-covered Douglass Park, many donned ponchos amid the inclement weather.
Weather conditions at Chicago’s Midway airport on Monday showed a dreary start with temperatures at 59 degrees and overcast, while O’Hare airport recorded 62 degrees with similar cloudy conditions.
