Newly declassified videos reveal the dramatic rescue of two U.S. Air Force officers, known only by their call signs ‘Alpha’ and ‘Bravo,’ after being shot down in Iran. Both officers ejected from their fighter jets after being attacked, landing approximately five miles apart in mountainous terrain near Isfahan. Iranian forces pursued them, attracted by bounties on their heads.

Daylight Rescue Mission for Alpha

A risky daylight mission was executed to rescue Alpha, just eight hours after his ejection. The United States deployed 21 aircraft to conduct the rescue operation. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine emphasized the urgency of this mission, explaining that the threat to Alpha required bold action despite the danger of operating in daylight behind enemy lines.

Bravo’s Dramatic Rescue after Two Days

An infrared feed captured the tense moments of Bravo’s rescue, carried out roughy two days post-crisis. Two elite pararescuers located Bravo, who had sustained serious injuries during the ejection. Despite a broken back and other injuries, Bravo ascended a 7,000-foot ridgeline to await rescue. He stated that seeing his rescuers was among the greatest moments of his life. Upon their arrival, his response was simple: ‘Let’s go.’
