Non-Citizens Charged with Voter Fraud

Federal prosecutors have charged a Honduran national in California with voter fraud. The individual allegedly registered to vote under a false name and cast ballots in several elections. Fox News’ Matt Finn reports details from the federal indictment. The suspect reportedly used a gym membership to obtain a voter registration card, highlighting ongoing debates about voter ID laws.

Authorities have linked Anthony Tyrone Higgs, a Bahamian national living in the U.S. on a green card, to illegal voting in the 2020 election. Higgs has a history of violent crimes. His case has prompted deportation proceedings. Recently, the Trump administration ramped up efforts to combat election-related crimes.

Lauren Bis from the White House stated that any non-citizens voting illegally will face arrest and removal. Homeland Security Investigations confirmed Higgs illegally voted in 2020. Higgs was arrested in Georgia and remains in the custody of ICE, which is handling his removal process.

Higgs entered the U.S. legally in 1976 but faces immigration status revocation due to his criminal record. He has committed several violent crimes, including armed robbery and assaulting a police officer. Markwayne Mullin from DHS emphasized that illegal voting undermines legitimate votes, and thanked ICE for their work in removing Higgs.

Numerous cases involving illegal voting by non-citizens have come to light. A Colombian, Carlos Jaramillo-Grajales, received a three-year prison sentence for identity theft to vote illegally over two decades. In New Jersey, a Slovakian national was found guilty of voting illegally in 2022. An Australian national faced similar allegations in Louisiana.

Another case involved Mahady Sacko, a Mauritanian national, charged with voter fraud in Philadelphia. Sacko allegedly voted illegally multiple times since 2008. DHS confirmed Sacko is under an order of removal, exhausted all appeals, and still remains in the U.S.
