NFL Season Opener: Key Matchup Between Cowboys and Giants

The NFL season kicks off on Wednesday, but the spotlight will be on the first Sunday Night Football game, featuring NFC East contenders, the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants. These teams will square off in the Meadowlands, promising an intense matchup.

The Cowboys boast a high-powered passing game, headlined by receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. However, the Giants counter with their own talent, Malik Nabers, a promising receiver.

Nabers faced a hurdle, tearing his ACL last season, casting doubt on his participation in the season opener. Giants supporters received good news on Tuesday with the release of Darius Slayton. ESPN reporter Jordan Raanan suggested this indicates positive signs for Nabers.

“Consider this informed speculation on my part regarding Malik Nabers,” Raanan shared on social media. “The situation seems to be improving.”

Dan Graziano, an ESPN NFL reporter, echoed Raanan, stating on “Get Up” that the team’s coaching staff was pleasantly surprised by Nabers’ recovery progress during the summer.

“It sounds promising for Sunday night,” Graziano explained. “This is significant for the Giants.” If Nabers, who made the Pro Bowl as a rookie, can regain form after missing most of his second season, the Cowboys have reason for concern.

During those four games last year, Nabers achieved 18 receptions for 271 yards and two touchdowns, projecting beyond his rookie tally of seven touchdowns. According to Football Reference, if Nabers plays all 17 games, expectations include 1,320 yards, 114 catches, and eight touchdowns—impressive numbers for any receiver.

The real test will be Nabers’ return to full-speed action post-injury, leaving room for doubt about his impact. Nevertheless, Sunday night’s performance will offer clearer insights.
