Lily Tang Williams Wins GOP Primary in New Hampshire’s 2nd District

Businesswoman Lily Tang Williams secured a victory in the Republican primary for New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District. She triumphed over three other candidates aiming to turn the district red. This district covers the entire western part of New Hampshire, stretching from north to south.

Tang Williams, who is also the 2024 nominee, successfully outpaced her competitors. As an entrepreneur and co-chair of the New Hampshire Asian American Coalition from Weare, she led the race in fundraising. She raised nearly $1.2 million, while her closest competitor, Victor Orlando, gathered $175,000.

Born in China, Tang Williams identifies as a survivor of communism. She presented herself as “open-minded” and “independent” during an April interview, indicating her readiness to disagree with President Donald Trump when necessary. Her focus remains on representing her constituents effectively.

In discussions about international issues, specifically regarding Iran, she expressed strong opposition to oppressive governments. She called for Trump to outline a plan to end the war and achieve peace. Additionally, she criticized politicians for misusing their offices for personal gain.

Tang Williams previously led New Hampshire’s Libertarian Party. Of the minority candidates, Dan Nicholson and Michael Anthony Callis each earned a small share of the votes.

Both Tang Williams and Orlando positioned themselves as center-right candidates in a state predominantly influenced by Democrats. Although New Hampshire generally leans blue, Tang Williams achieved 47% of the vote during her 2024 campaign.

The 2nd Congressional District is currently represented by Rep. Maggie Goodlander (D-N.H.).
