Several key figures at ’60 Minutes’, including Campanile, Tanya Simon, Draggan Mihailovich, Matthew Polevoy, Sharyn Alfonsi, and Cecilia Vega, were let go in May. These actions were viewed as part of a reorganization led by the network’s editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss. Campanile highlighted his concern about what he sees as online influencers taking over traditional news institutions, including CBS News. He argued that newsroom managers may lack firsthand experience with critical issues like poverty, war, and disasters, yet they make important decisions based on trending topics.

Campanile expressed his commitment to maintaining journalistic integrity, urging his former colleagues to remain steadfast. “Hold the line,” he advised, suggesting that compromising on journalistic values would lead to a loss of credibility. Despite the network’s assertion that former employees’ accusations were unfounded, Campanile felt the need to speak out. ’60 Minutes’ has aired stories critical of the Trump administration, including interviews with farmers on tariffs and progressive cardinals opposing immigration policies.
