Giants Make Surprising Move By Releasing Veteran Receiver Darius Slayton

In a surprising decision, the Giants recently waived their longest-tenured player and steady presence: wide receiver Darius Slayton. Slayton was released on Monday, just days before their season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on “Sunday Night Football.” Although 29 years old and not the key figure he once was, Slayton remained productive last season, with 37 catches for 538 yards and a touchdown, averaging 14.5 yards per catch, which was the second highest on the team.

No one expected his release, especially so close to the season. Many teams are in need of receiver depth, so Slayton may not be a free agent for long. Potential fits could include the Raiders, Bengals, and Panthers. As a Georgia native, the Falcons might also be interested. A reunion with Brian Daboll in Tennessee could be another possibility.
