Two Deaths Reported at Burning Man Festival in Nevada Desert

Two men died within about 24 hours at the Burning Man festival, held in the Nevada desert, as thousands gathered for the event’s final days.

Fatal Incidents at Black Rock City

One of the deceased was identified as Craigh Mann, aged 60. He was discovered by his campmates on the afternoon of Saturday, September 5. In a separate incident, another man in his mid-50s experienced a medical emergency the day before.

Mann was found at his camp in Black Rock City at approximately 3 p.m. on September 5, according to the Burning Man Project.

Burning Man Project is saddened to report that Craigh Mann, a 60-year-old participant, was found deceased at his camp,” festival organizers stated. “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family, friends, campmates, and others affected by this loss.

First Death Reported

The first death of the festival was announced Friday evening. The individual, who remains unnamed, suffered a medical emergency and was given lifesaving interventions before being taken to the festival’s onsite emergency care center.

He was pronounced dead at the center. His name has not been disclosed pending family notification.

Organizers emphasized, “The safety and well-being of our community and staff remain our highest priority.” They have ensured support resources are available for participants in Black Rock City—a temporary settlement created each year for the event.

The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Burning Man Festival Overview

The annual festival commenced on August 30 and was set to conclude on Monday. It attracts up to 80,000 visitors, known as burners. The highlight of the event is the burning of a large wooden structure.
