Tension Rises Ahead of Israeli Prime Minister’s Visit to New York

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon expressed concern to Fox News Digital regarding New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s actions. He accused the mayor of ‘sowing chaos’ before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s scheduled appearance at the U.N. General Assembly.

Mamdani previously prompted New Yorkers to protest against Netanyahu’s attendance at the U.N. headquarters on September 24. Danon criticized this stance, explaining, ‘Instead of welcoming world leaders and ensuring the city’s functionality, Mayor Mamdani is inciting unrest.’ Despite these challenges, Danon affirmed, ‘The prime minister will visit, will speak, and will stand for our nation.’

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu is committed to visiting New York despite Mamdani’s repeated calls for his arrest.

Mamdani’s office did not respond to inquiries about any planned meeting with Netanyahu during his visit. Danon remarked, ‘I don’t think the prime minister wants to meet with him.’ Mamdani has labeled Netanyahu a ‘war criminal’ and criticized his actions against Palestinians. Despite earlier campaign promises to arrest Netanyahu, Mamdani acknowledged his inability to do so.

During a July press conference, Mamdani emphasized protest as an essential part of New York’s identity, urging citizens to express their views freely. He stated, ‘Our city thrives on protest, an embodiment of our First Amendment rights.’

Netanyahu addressed Fox News, stating his intention to ‘speak the truth’ in front of adversarial New Yorkers. Danon highlighted the significance of Netanyahu’s speech, touching on recent conflicts and future prospects for Israel.

We cannot allow a terrorist organization to remain in Gaza. If necessary, we will take action ourselves.

Amid ongoing tensions, Danon also discussed regional challenges, particularly the presence of Hamas in Gaza. He reiterated the Israeli government’s stance to disarm Hamas, emphasizing the importance of dealing with this issue to secure a peaceful future.

Danon confidently stated, ‘Israel walks proudly at the U.N., knowing we fought not only for ourselves but for Western democracies.’ He underscored the pride in Israel’s actions against entities like Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas.
