The baseball biomechanics lab at West Virginia University has become a focal point for some of Major League Baseball’s most skilled players. This cutting-edge lab is unique as it is primarily operated by students.
A recent scene at the university’s biomechanics performance center featured West Virginia right-hander Slade Barton undergoing a pitching assessment. Located in Morgantown, West Virginia, the lab is active during the baseball season.
Paul Skenes, one of the youngest winners of the Cy Young award, participated in activities at the lab. Situated in the mountain region of West Virginia, Skenes carefully observed a computer screen as part of his visit. He engaged with four young, casually dressed individuals also present in the area.
Skenes then approached a designated small marker on the floor. The area was illuminated by white LED lights, which caught the perspiration on his body as he prepared to demonstrate his skills. Taking a moment to steady himself, he lifted his left leg while lowering his right arm. In a split second, he released a baseball that traveled over 60 feet past the gathered onlookers.
